چکیده
For fish of the genus Sebastes, which have strong site fidelity, understanding characteristics their return trips and how sensory cues influence behavior will be useful for conservation resource management. Here, we conducted a behavioral tracking study black rockfish Sebastes schlegelii using acoustic telemetry inhibition. We compared aspects process individuals in control group (CNT), blind (BLD) olfactory inhibition (OLF) conditions. Nine were released 850 m from fishing site, all them returned. However, time taken to complete varied, with BLD taking longest, followed by OLF then CNT. One CNT individual at 2 km did not return. The route was through waters shallower than 10 west receiving area, Area 1, north area including release point, 2, while swam opposite direction, depth 40 northeast 2. took longer although they same as after release. Therefore, visual likely used determine direction return, vision probably affected speed activity patterns. Inhibition olfaction affects on small spatial scales. Though it may less impact inhibition, still prevent perception specific environments conspecifics.

Short-Term Fidelity, Habitat Use and Vertical Movement Behavior of the Black Rockfish Sebastes schlegelii as Determined by Acoustic Telemetry
The recent miniaturization of acoustic tracking devices has allowed fishery managers and scientists to collect spatial and temporal data for sustainable fishery management. The spatial and temporal dimensions of fish behavior (movement and/or vertical migrations) are particularly relevant for rockfishes (Sebastes spp.) because most rockfish species are long-lived and have high site fidelity, in...

A novel Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, motile and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain RSG39T, was isolated from the gut of a Korean rockfish, Sebastes schlegelii. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain RSG39T belonged to the genus Simplicispira in the class Betaproteobacteria and its highest sequence similarity was shared with S. psychrophila (98.4 %). The isolate grew opti...
متن کاملToxic effects of ammonia exposure on growth performance, hematological parameters, and plasma components in rockfish, Sebastes schlegelii, during thermal stress
Rockfish, Sebastes schlegelii (mean length 14.53 ± 1.14 cm and mean weight 38.36 ± 3.45 g), were exposed for 4 weeks with the different levels of ammonia in the concentrations of 0, 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 mg/L at 19 and 24 °C. The indicators of growth performance such as daily length gain, daily weight gain, condition factor, and hematosomatic index were significantly reduced by the ammonia exposure...
متن کاملIdentification of biomarkers indicative of barotrauma and recovery in black rockfish Sebastes melanops.
A Sebastes-specific complementary DNA (cDNA) microarray was developed to identify potential biomarkers involved in the capture stress and recovery of Sebastes species if they are assisted in returning to their original depth of capture following barotrauma. Black rockfish Sebastes melanops were exposed to simulated decompression from 450 kPa (c. 35 m depth) (which resulted in barotrauma) and su...
متن کاملRecovery potential of black rockfish, Sebastes melanops Girard, recompressed following barotrauma.
Overfished species of rockfish, Sebastes spp., from the Northeast Pacific experience high bycatch mortality because of 'barotrauma', a condition induced from the rapid change in pressure during capture. Field experiments show that it may be possible for rockfish to recover from barotrauma if quickly recompressed; however, no work has followed the physiological recovery of rockfish after recompr...
